BIOGRAPHY
Jorge began his dance training at the age of 3 when as fate would have it Mr. Norberto Guichenduc, the highly acclaimed ballet and tango dancer from Europe arrived to Jorge’s hometown on a mission. Mr. Norberto Guichenduc’s goal, remarkably surprising to the residents of this small rural town, was to give of his time to teach the town’s children to dance, affording them an opportunity they otherwise would not have had. Under the tutelage of Mr. Norberto Guichenduc, Jorge’s training began first within the different styles of Argentine Folkdances typical of his country of origin. Soon thereafter, Mr. Norberto Guichenduc, recognizing Jorge’s natural talent, became his personal trainer, mentor and friend for life. Thus began years of classical training in ballet, tango, and performance. Even before graduating from his studies to be a dance teacher himself, Jorge had begun his professional career at the internationally renowned Teatro Colon of Buenos Aires.
Jorge Torres has studied the art of Argentine Tango from dancers and teachers of great stature, including as Norberto Guichenduc, Rodolfo Dinzel, Pepito Avellaneda, and Antonio Todaro. He has performed in noted tango houses and theatres in Argentina along with renowned tango orchestras such as Sexteto Mayor in Santiago’s Municipal Theatre-Chile. His extensive list of shows includes “Imagenes”, “Tango y Anoranzas”, “La Pesada del Tango”, “Tangokinesis”, “Tanguisimo 91”,”Tango Tango”, “Viva Tango”, “Tango Passion”, “Buenos Aires Tango Show”, “Tango Seduccion”, and the Broadway and international hit “Forever Tango”, for which he has been the Dance Captain since May 1995. He has coordinated shows such as “World Tango Week” in Tokyo and Directed the Show “Tango Legend” attracting record breaking results each time. He was a member of the jury for the First World Championship of Argentinean Tango in Buenos Aires in 2003 as well as in 2009, the jury for the Campionato Asiatico in 2011 and has been the main jury for the USA Tango Championships since 2007.
Jorge, never one to rest on his laurels continually searches for ways to expand his understanding of the core elements of the body and its power to move.
By studying Reiki Jorge learned to understand and control his own energy. He has applied this as a tool to teach his students how to relax ultimately allowing them the simple pleasure of enjoying their dancing. Jorge, also a classically trained dancer, was taught to always contain and protect his equilibrium by focusing on a specific part of his body. His desire to expand his horizons and explore other ways to achieve the same goal brought him to study the martial art of Aikido. To this day Aikido gives him an entirely different perspective on how the mind behaves and how the human body reacts within its own axis.
Jorge Torres is the consummate professional who has achieved the highest standards and accolades. Nonetheless his personal mantra remains: “in order to succeed you must always believe you are wearing a white belt”.
Since early 1995 Jorge has been part of the original cast of Broadway hit show “Forever Tango ” and was nominated in 1998 for a Tony award for best choreography. The show ran for over a year at the Marquis Theater, New York, U.S.A. In that same year “Forever Tango” was also nominated for best choreography by the Outer Critics Circle and nominated for four awards including best choreography by the Drama Desk. Jorge is currently performing with “Forever Tango”, serving as the Dance Captain to its company of dancers since May, 1997.
He has recorded ‘A Evaristo Carriego’ in the video “Dancing in the moment” with Karen Kain for the Canadian Broadcasting Company directed by Luis Bravo.
As Dance captain of “Forever Tango ”, Creative Director of The Shimmy Club, Inc. , Juror of the tango championships, and Artistic Director for the American Tango Institute , he is constantly touring across the USA, Asia and Europe, teaching and inspiring others in the art of Argentine Tango.
He resides in New York city where he hosts a successful monthly Milonga "El Embrujo ".

MARIA BLANCO: Maria had finished high school and was about to start university when she realized what she really wanted was not fashion design, it was dancing. As a child she studied ballet dance with a teacher who woke up her senses using music and scents to introduce her to the language of dancing. Maria has always been connected to art in its many different expressions. She has studied: mural painting, percussion, photography, pottery and acting. In addition to Tango, she has studied several dance and movement forms including: Afro and Afro-American dance, jazz, modern, ballet, yoga and pilates. Maria is always in touch with art because she thinks that “to live surrounded by art wakes up your senses, the different expressions nourish each other and the sensibility of an artist is endless.” Maria began dancing tango the day a friend asked her to take a class. She fell completely in love with tango the day she first entered a milonga – the people, the atmosphere and the music charmed her forever. “Art is a language: a tool of knowledge and a tool of communication” Jean Dubuffet
Maria has perform in several shows, tango festivals, corporate events, advertisements and TV presentations around the United States, Brasil and Argentina. Model for Vogue, National Geographic and Travel & Lesure photographers.
